Are your belts made of Leather?
Share
We were asked to recreate three slim belts for a customer and we had such fun making these! We even managed to rescue some of the hardware from the old ones 👌
Our customer was aware that their original belts were not Leather. Do you know if your belts are actually LEATHER?
80% of customers who bring in belts for repair are not aware that their belts are made from PU or Plastic - not leather. You can see from the old belt pictures below that the belts have several layers and they are peeling away from regular use; quite often, only months of use.
A solid leather belt should last you many many years, even decades if looked after well.
How do I tell if a Belt is made from Leather?
It's not always easy to tell but here are our top tips to work it out.
- Smell - can you smell the leather? If not, it probably isn't leather.
- Does the belt or the packaging actually have the word Leather written on it? If not? Why?
- Edge Paint - this is a key indiciator that the belt is not leather (or fully leather) as manufactures pain the edges to give the illusion that it's one single layer instead of multiple layers of plastic.
- Price - if it's advertised as a Leather Belt at £15 - I guarantee you it's not leather. Good quality leather belts cost in the range of £40-£100 depending on the leather used.
If you're still not sure - don't buy it! You can pre-order a Leather Belt direct from our online shop.
