Our Leather

We pride ourselves in using the very best quality true luxury leather. We love how it smells, feels and looks! Leather should smell beautiful, feel soft and buttery and look incredible, with natural grains and variations.

These leathers may show vein marks, minor scratches, and variations in colour and grain. We can't emphasise enough that these are not defects. Here at DD Practical, we embrace the natural characteristics of the leather which are, in fact, considered the hallmark of true artisan-grade leathers.

You should expect your leather product to change with use, as it takes in the oils from your skin and develops a patina.

If these leathers are not to your taste, we do have other options available through our Leather supplier. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Please Note: Colours may vary slightly due to the differences in screen technology and variations between dye batches.

  • Badalassi Pueblo is a pure vegetable‑tanned, dyed‑through shoulder leather that blends rugged character with a really refined finish. It has a distinctive rustic surface and a slightly rough feel at first, but it rewards wear beautifully—buffing with a dry cloth will burnish it brighter while deepening the colour, and the more you brush and handle it, the more “lived in” and personal it becomes. Over time (even without treatment) Pueblo develops a natural patina that turns the surface silky smooth, and it can also be cared for with our own leather care range. Named as a tribute to the proud, strong character of the indigenous Pueblo peoples, this leather is produced in Italy by the Badalassi Carlo tannery (a member of the Consorzio Vera Pella Italiana.)

  • Walpier Buttero is a world-famous, premium vegetable-tanned full grain leather made by Italian tannery Conceria Walpier (a member of the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana). It has a beautiful smooth, matte finish and a medium-to-firm feel, making it a brilliant choice for hard-wearing pieces like our leather belts, journals and trays. Buttero is available in a fantastic mix of classic and vibrant colours, and it will patina over time—developing even more character as it ages.

Please note: Buttero leather has a resin finish on the reverse (back) side.

  • Our CountrySoft range is a vegetable re-tanned, waxy pull-up full-grain Leather. It is a heavyweight leather, tanned within Europe on heavy Ox hides to ‘Reach’ standards. Widely known as a ‘Crazy Horse’ type of leather.

This leather is buttery soft to the touch, but tough. It’s important to note that this leather will pick up marks and scratches easier than other leathers. This is called a patina and is a highly coveted feature for leather lovers.

We would recommend Pueblo or Minerva for those who don't like marks.

Italian Softee is a high-quality, versatile Italian leather that’s perfect for our bags. Available in 20 shades, it’s chosen from hides sourced in the lush, green pastures of Italy’s Veneto region. As the name suggests, it has a soft, supple feel with a smooth, classic semi-bright finish that looks beautiful across a wide range of products. It’s also a favourite of a number of well-known luxury brands. If you prefer something with a firmer feel, take a look at our leather ranges.
