What's been happening
I started 2026 in a three-month burnout after pushing myself too far last year. I had to stop, rest, and figure out what was going on because I was in constant pain.
Alongside needing a new knee, I’ve also been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the spine. It’s been a huge shock, and it’s going to take time to process.
Last year I finally put aside the embarrassment of needing mobility aids in my 30s. This year I’ve had to upgrade to an electric wheelchair. Her name is Daisy — and yes, she’s PINK.
Acceptance (and adjusting)
It’s taken time to accept that my wheelchair helps me, and that I can’t do things the way I used to. To keep going with DD Practical, I’ve had to learn a new way of living and working.
We’ve rearranged our home so I can work safely, adapted the van so Daisy can come with me, and tested whether I could manage a festival weekend.
I apologise that it has taken me so long to get to this point.
Going Forward
This is all still new, and I’m learning how to run a business solo while managing an invisible chronic illness. I need to slow down and pace my energy.
Some days I can barely move. Some days I can make leather goods. I never know what kind of day it will be.
I still love what I do — it may just take me a little longer now, and I have to account for recovery days.
Thank you for being here, and for your patience and support.
